The DSR Chair: Iconic classic from the year of the first London Olympics

For our gold medal winner of the month we look back into the great designs of mid 20th century.   Created in the same year as the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, the iconic DSR chair carries the spirit of an era with a great number of innovations, cultural firsts and general post-war excitement.

The DSR was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair.  It is known as the Eiffel Chair because of its welded wire base – a recognizable feature of Eames’s work.   This classic design comprises of organically shaped bowl seat, which high-backed structure provides seating comfort as well as simple and elegant look.
