Architectural Functionalism: Just because we love Arne Jacobsen

Architectural Functionalism: Just because we love Arne Jacobsen

We’d shout it from the rooftops if we could – we love Arne Jacobsen! His furniture is innovative, sleek and undeniably stylish. Brilliant icons of the 20th century, these pieces never fail to wow us, even though they were created as far back as the 1950s. Jacobsen was one talented designer, and that is why we’ve decided it is time to dedicate a blog to his fantastic work. Take a look at some of our favorite pieces.

The Series 7 Chair

Designed in 1955, the Series 7 Chair is simple, stackable and minimalist. We are huge fans of this chair, especially these beautifully bright colored versions!

The Egg Chair

The Egg Chair was originally designed for the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen and is truly original. It’s evident that this piece is so popular because it’s so distinctive. We know that many EMFURN staff would love the Egg Chair to take pride of place in their living rooms! Look how this baby blue version stands out in this stark white room.

The Swan Chair

The Swan Chair is another of Arne Jacobsen’s most popular designs. Also created for the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, this is a definite statement piece. It’s luxurious and completely chic. Have you noticed that there are no straight lines, only curves?

 The Ant Chair

Originally designed for a canteen, the Ant Chair is comfortable and quirky. Resembling the shape of an ant, this chair is undeniably different. The perfect dining chair, this piece still looks modern despite the fact that it was designed in the middle of the 20th century!

 The AJ Floor Lamp

We think that the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen must be the coolest hotel in the world! Another piece designed by Jacobsen for this cool location, the AJ Standard Lamp is super stylish, from the shade right down to the quirky base.

We are sure you’ll agree with us – Arne Jacobsen is a true master of furniture design! We are sure you’ll agree with us – Arne Jacobsen is a true master of furniture design!
