Finn Juhl :: 100 years of timeless design

Internationally recognized for his influential contribution to furniture design, Finn Juhl would have celebrated his 100-year anniversary this year. He is one of those talents whose popularity grows over time with design furniture cherished in homes and design museums all over the world. His work had influenced the course of design history in the second half of the 20th century and his legacy will be celebrated with a number of major events in Denmark, Sweden, New York and Japan.

Denmark

A birthday bash near Juhl’s private holm is organized by the Ordrupgaard Art Museum north of Copenhagen, Denmark. Finn Juhl’s private house will be opened to the public all year round offering guided tours for people interested to rediscover the private life of the Danish talent. Talks, exhibitions as well as various activities for children are included in the celebratory program to make a memorable event for all ages.

Sweden

In Stockholm, Sweden, the Danish Embassy opens doors to an impressive exhibition commemorating Finn Juhl’s life and designs.

New York

Finn Juhl’s creative work has also left a significant footprint in New York. The Council Chamber in the United Nations Headquarters in New York was entirely designed by the prominent talent in the 1950s. He designed everything from the colourful ceilings to the wall panels and furniture. To celebrate Juhl’s timeless appeal, the Chamber will undergo full restoration to be completed in January 2013.

Japan
